Dry Heels Show in Clear Stage Heels: How to Fix Them During Prep

Oct 5
2 min read

Clear heels hide nothing. You spend months building your physique, picking your suit, and practicing your posing. Then you turn your back to the judges, and your heels are right there under the stage lights. Dry heels are easy to miss in your own mirror and easy to see from the audience. The good news is that this is one of the simplest things to get ahead of, as long as you start early. If you have not read it yet, our post on contest prep skin care covers keeping the rest of your skin moisturized.

Why Dry Heels Happen During Prep

Your heels take more wear than almost any other skin on your body, and prep adds to it.

You are on your feet for hours. Training, cardio, and posing practice in your heels all put pressure and friction on the same spot.

You shower a lot. Two workouts a day can mean two showers a day, and hot water and soap dry skin out.

The skin on your soles has no oil glands of its own. It depends on what you put on it.

You cut back on water close to the show. That shows up in your skin, and the driest spots show it first.

How to Fix Dry Heels Before Show Day

This is a nightly habit, not a show-week rescue. Start now.

1. Do it after your evening shower. Dry your feet well, including between your toes.

2. Use something thick. A light lotion is fine for your arms and legs. Heels need a body butter.

3. Work it in. Take a small amount and rub it into each heel and along the edges, where the dry line shows in clear shoes.

4. Put on socks. Cotton socks keep the butter on your heels and off your sheets.

5. Repeat every night. Consistency is what counts.

6. Check from behind. When you practice posing in your stage heels, look at your heels in the mirror the way the judges will see them.

One rule comes first: your tanning company will tell you when to stop using lotions and butters before your tan. Follow their instructions exactly.
